Part A – Task 1

The reason that I like the magazine is because it is very well written, with many exciting and frightening interviews, reports and posts about animal life on earth. For example, I could never imagine that 4-5000 Red-winged Blackbirds would just plummet into their own death with no logical explanation. And that the cougar in the Eastern United States is extinct is very sad for me to read. But after all, I think that the text is educational and interesting, and that I really want to read more of it.

I wish the magazine dealt with more substance in the story about the cougar, and that they talked about why the cougar is extinct. This is an animal I like, because it’s so cute, and fast! It would also be nice if the magazine had a page where they talked about dinosaurs, and how and why they got extinct millions of years ago. And at least, I want to hear more about the Red-winged Blackbirds, because that topic was really interesting.

Part A – Task 2

Emily Watson

Age – 52

Education – Nurse

What do you think is the reason for the death of the Red-winged Blackbirds outside and around the city of Beebe?

- I think the reason is sickness among the birds. They ate fish from the ocean, which can be poisoned by oil, chemical substances or other dangerous man-made stuff that humanity spilled into the lakes of Arkansas, or USA generally.

Matt Johnson

Age – 24

Education –Electrician

What do you think is the reason for the death of the Red-winged Blackbirds outside and around the city of Beebe?

Actually, I don’t know. Maybe it's because of all the dangerous substances we humans shoot into the atmosphere? Like Co2 and other kinds of gasses that we produce by using our cars, aircrafts and motorcycles. Or maybe the birds got a sort of bird flu, or maybe “human” flu in their case.

Lisa McGuire

Age – 36

Education – Hairdresser

What do you think is the reason for the death of the Red-winged Blackbirds outside and around the city of Beebe?

The reason is humanity. I’m not an investigator in this topic, and I don’t know how we caused this, but there is no other logical explanation. Maybe we poisoned their food, or their environments, I don’t know. But humanity is definitely the answer of this.

Part B – Task 3A

Don’t you see?

Dear lord. I’m sitting here, in my armchair thinking about what humanity had done to nature and all the fantastic creatures on earth. And there is a question that bothers me. Why did you put the humans in charge of the world? Why aren’t the apes the rulers, the birds? Why did you create us? We have only given you pain, burdens and anger. We have not shown you what you wanted us to show you. Proudness and wisdom to motherland. We have disappointed you Lord; we have disappointed you so much that we are not worth anything. Not anything at all.

From magnificent and pretty grasslands, to noisy-smog filled cities and beautiful mountains to high quality hotels are just some of the things the humanity have done to the nature. And all this will continue in the future. But then it will get even worse.

And that’s why I need you to hurry up. If you don’t do anything, the world as we know it will turn into something like Mars. Where it rains sulfuric acid and the temperature is over 350 degrees Celsius. Do you want that? Or do you want to make the world a better place as fast as even possibly?

And that’s not the worst thing. The humanity is also killing. “Kill” – that’s the right key word to describe us, isn’t it? We kill everything. Birds, beasts, wild plants, trees, fish. Soon we’re going to kill all life. And that’s not what you want, is it?

Maybe you should do like you did with Noah and his ark? Rinse away all malice and greed on earth, and let a few individuals remain to rebuild the nature again? What do you think about that? Take away all the bad things, replacing it with the good? Go from totally darkness, to lightness in one, and only one action? I think it sounds marvelous, and if I were you, I would press the button to flush away all this madness at this moment. Right now.

So please don’t let us spoil the greatest gift of all time; life. It’s too beautiful to spoil.

Amen
