1.      Why are some prejudices acceptable and some are not?

Prejudices are seen everywhere in our world today, we stereotype when we meet new people on the streets or face difficulties for instance we tend to categories people that have different backgrounds then we do. Having a stereotype means that you have perceptions of other people where you connect them with different or specific characteristics, where the characters can be either positive or negative, but usually negative.

Stereotypic perceptions can lead to prejudices about particular groups and racism. One of the stereotypes we especially know today is from 9/11 where two aircraft flew into the two twin towers. The captains who were on board had Asian background, from this we have pictured something in our mind and have formed a stereotype. From this the rest of the world has got a completely different impression of people with Arabic background, those stereotypical ones especially as terrorists around the world because of this incident. This is especially expressed in the media, where people from the western countries are exhibited in a negative way. Here as individuals, we have formed some prejudices and precisely of this group of races. Even though this is not always the case, but the media can play a major role here, as it is only what they show when it comes to this race group. This has an influence on the viewers' consciousness to a greater extent, where it has a bad influence on them. But however, this is not always the case, because we are so quick to judge people based on how the look and generalize them where we tend to put them in different boxes, but not all people with a Arabic background are theorist, this is the reason why prejudices such as this is not acceptable.

2.      How do you, as students from different backgrounds, view members from the different categories (e.g., some people see “rednecks” as farmers whereas others see them as racist)?

As a international student from Denmark coming to America with an different background I always view members from the different categories differently, such as American people are fat, or that must white American are members of the Ku Klux Klan, because this is what we were being taught from childhood, so I grow up with this idea, but when I finally is was totally different, and the way I was viewing people especially the white population changed, as in the beginning I used to keep a distance or was trying to surround myself around black people, all of this based on the prejudices.

3.      If you know members of different categories, do you have different perspectives on the

various groups? I grow up with

I grew up in Denmark where 50% of the population comes from the Muslim countries. As I said, I have often had prejudices against a group of people, this could be on the basis of something historical or just an event, I Denmark have been prejudiced against all Muslims, as they have always been involved in creating problems and conflicts for terrorists around the world. But as I grew up on but a Muslim girlfriend, I started to change attitude as my girlfriend did not live up to the prejudices that were talked about regarding people from the Middle East as she was just like everyone else. As human beings, we need to be careful about judging people and having prejudices based on where they come from.
