Sherlock Holmes is the creation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. He is a detective and he is mighty good one too. Mr. Holmes’ assistant is Dr. Watson. He is a doctor of medicine by profession and helps Sherlock Holmes in his cases. The first story about Sherlock Holmes was published in 1887, and the last one in 1917. Sherlock Holmes was a long thin man, about six feet tall. He was very irregular in his habits. He played the violin. He had many strange friends who came to see him day and night. Sherlock Holmes had remarkable powers of observation. By using this and his knowledge of various subjects he could deduce lots of things from something which to others seemed normal. Once Watson thought that Holmes was dead, but he wasn’t and four years later he appeared in front of Watson who almost fainted. He had done this because he wanted everyone to belive he was dead. This made it easyer for him to catch criminals later.
