Title: The diary of a young girl

Author: Anne Frank, edited by Otto H. Frank & Mirjam Pressler

Number of pages: 427 p.

This is the book about A Jewish young girl named Anne Frank.

Anne Frank was born in 1929 in Frankfurt am Main in Germany. In 1933, the anti-Jewish National Socialist Party led by Hitler comes to power. Anne Frank's Jewish parents Edith and Otto Frank think that there is no future in Germany for themselves and their children. They flee to the Netherlands in 1933. Anne is then four years old. Until she is eleven she grows up without a care in relatively safer Holland. In 1940, the Netherlands is occupied by Germany and the protection that Holland provides comes to an end.

Anne's life is depending on the anti-Jewish Decrees. In 1942 the deportations to the "work camps" begin. Anne's parents see the possibility of going into hiding in the annex of the building that houses Otto's business. Anne writes her diary during the two years in hiding in the Secret Annex. In more than two years she fills several notebooks. At the end of the hiding period Anne rewrites her diary notebooks with the intention to make a book from them, that can be published after the war has ended.

She wrote almost every day. She described the frustration the people hiding in the annexe had because they couldn’t go out, could not look out of the window and things like that. The people that lived in the Annexe was: Anne Frank, her mother Edith Frank, her father Otto Frank, her sister Margot Frank, Mrs. Van Daan, Mr. Van. Daan, Peter Van Daan and Mr. Dussel. They also had 4 helpers. Victor Kugler, Miep Gies, Johannes Kleiman, and Bep Voskuijl. They work in the office on the second floor. Beneath them on the ground floor work two warehouse clerks who aren't aware of those in hiding right above them.

During the hiding period the only contact with the outside world is through the office workers. They buy food, bring books, and report everything that is happening in the outside world. In August 1944, the people in hiding are arrested and deported. Via the transit camp Westerbork and then Auschwitz, Anne goes to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. She dies there in March 1945. Otto Frank was the only person that survived of this eight people in the annexe. The 4 helpers was arrested and killed too.

In 1947 Otto Frank has the diaries of his deceased daughter published. "The Diary of Anne Frank" is one of the most widely read books in the world.

What I think about the book: I think It’s a very good book considering that it is a diary. Anne Frank is very often “picked at” of the other people in the annexe because she is the smallest and I feel sorry for Anne. The book is a bit hard for a girl on 14-year-old Norwegian girl to read. It’s so long and there is not so much action in the book. In the beginning and in the end very much happen. But that’s just 1/3 of the book. In the rest of the book other normal things is happening. Fights fall in love, trust and such things. I have read this book before though. And the last time I read it I read it on Norwegian and in that book Anne Frank was a very kind and shy. Always doing what her parents wanted her to do.

She had never been in love before and when she met peter she falled in love straight away.

But in this book she is a very attractive young lady and the boys are lined up just for her. She also has many arguments with her parents. Can’t stand her mother and have many friends. When she goes into hiding in the Annexe she does not like Peter but after a while she does. Anne and Peter spend a lot of time together in the Attic. Talking about: their parents, sex, love, trust and so many other things. But my point is that I don’t feel that the Norwegian book and the English book is the same book even if they are!

But I like this book. It’s a very good book, and of numbers from 1-10

Where 10 are the best I would give it a 9.
